George Cory/Douglas Cross
Tony Bennett's 1962 signature song, became the official city song October 6, 1969. Composers Douglass Cross and George Cory were present when the Board of Supervisors adopted the resolution. Mr. Cross told the supervisors and spectators, "This is a very proud moment for George Cory and me. If our song is success, it is because it reflects in some small measure, perhaps, the history, the legend, the magic of this beautiful city that has fascinated the imagination of the world."

I Left My Heart In San Francisco

Words & music by:-
George Cory & Douglas Cross

The loveliness of Paris
Seems somehow sadly gay
The glory that was Rome
Is of another day
I've been terribly alone
And forgotten in Manhattan
I'm going home to my city by the bay.

I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me.
To be where little cable cars
Climb halfway to the stars!
The morning fog may chill the air
I don't care!
My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco,
Your golden sun will shine for me!
